Aedes albopictus (the Asian tiger mosquito)

A. albopictus is the vector for many arthropod borne viruses (Arboviruses) including Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, West Nile Fever, and many agents which produce encephalitis.  There are presently over 500 of these agents which have been identified, many of which cause sever disease and death in humans and animals. Vaccines exist which protect from infection by only a very few of these viruses.
